what kind of setup does a 06 charger have?

i want a hemi to put in my 1971 dodge demon but im concerned about the mileage. my friend has a 06 dodge charger daytona that has a hemi but it still gets descent mileage. what could i do to a hemi i get to have power and mileage like the modern hemis?

Modern Hemis benefit from modern engine management controls and features such as cylinder deactivation. It would be difficult indeed to setup an older 'elephant' to match the performance, economy, and reliability of these motors.

That being said, the best way to approach these levels would be to purchase an aftermarket fuel injection system which allows user tuning of the fuel/air maps. This way, you could program the ECU for maximum economy (albeit with a slight sacrifice in performance). This option, however, can be very costly, as aftermarket F/I systems starrt in the several-thousands of dollars range. Or, you could get a modern Hemi from a junkyard and shoehorn it into your Demon.

Failing that, just use an older Hemi, set up the carb conservatively, and keep your foot out of the gas.
