Unfortunately, a lot of media attention has been placed on recent events in Australia, that are actually rare in occurrence.

Australia is internationally regarded as one of the most racially tolerant and harmonious countries in the world. We do not have "freedom of speech" protection for racist organisations such as the Ku Klux Klan. On the opposite, each of Australia's states are introducing legislation that out rightly bans such groups and prohibits the association of peoples who belong to such groups.

Australia has strong laws relating to racial vilification. In sentencing, the courts view it an aggravating circumstance if violence was racially motivated, and as a result, offenders can expect to receive much harsher penalties.

The Indian media recently paid a lot of attention to violence perpetrated against Indian students in Australia. The reality is however, that such event were a mere handful, but received a lot of media attention. Lesser regarded in the media is that the vast majority of racially motivated hatred and violence in Australia was not committed by Australian born people, but by immigrants.

The angst and violence between two particular ethnic groups of eastern Europe is common in their respective countries. Some of those people who have immigrated to Australia continue that hatred and violence against each other, having chosen Australia as the "battle field". In essence, no matter what country they choose to live in, their violence and hatred against each other would continue.

Australia has one of the highest ratios of elected politicians who were not born in the country where they now serve.

Of all the worlds countries, Australia offers the greatest freedoms for foreign investors to set up their operations in Australia, and even own land. Unlike so many other countries, where foreign ownership of land is prohibited.

Consider also that a person marrying an Australian citizen can come to Australia as a permanent resident, free to come and go as they please. Meanwhile, in many countries, permission to reside in the country is limited to a visa that has to be renewed regularly.

Australia does not have "affirmative action" policies like the USA where preference is given to minorities to create a balance in places of employment or schools. (example - my brother-in-laws niece in Denver, Colorado (USA), lived only 300 yards from the school gate, but had to enroll at another school some miles away because that close handy school had already met it's quota of students of her particular racial group.

Australia is very much a cultural melting pot. I particularly demonstrate that as in the example of the city of Darwin. You can sit in any bar or restaurant and find a white man with his aboriginal wife, a Chinese with his/her Mediteranian spouse, and so forth. You will find at the Mindil Beach markets in Darwin, where there is a host of food stalls supplying cultural cuisine from their home countries, inundated by Australian born people lining up to eat.

Australia has unfairly been targeted by media claiming we are a racist and xenophobic country, but it does not take much effort to see such events are rare and limited to what occurs almost daily in other countries.

We do not have daily shootings and riots like is so common at the Gaza strip.
We never had a need for a Martin Luther King civil rights movement.
We never had forced blacks to keep off the sidewalks.
We never had slavery.
We never had signs above public facilities saying "No coloreds".
We have never prohibited any race from using public transport.
We never rounded up any particular religious group and sent them to death camps.
We never had armed gangs going about committing genocidial murders. (like Rwanda, Somalia, Serbia and Yugoslavia)

We do have unfair dismissal laws where an employer can be fined thousand of dollars and forced to pay compensation for firing or failing to employ a person based on a decision of race.
We also have had radio and TV personalities taken off the air for making racial comments, and so forth....

Australia is racially tolerant and harmonious. Any acts that would suggest otherwise are done by an extreme minority and as is known, the vast majority of those who do that were not born in this country. Our Government not only condemns such actions by law, the people of Australia as a whole embrace ethnic diversity and live harmoniously and give full support to our Government for promoting a free and harmonious lifestyle.
